Ashgabat becomes Astana’s new sister city

Hey readers! Have you ever heard about the concept of sister cities? It is a beautiful tradition of establishing friendly cultural and economic ties between two cities that can be located in different countries or even continents. Usually countries sign a memorandum on establishing cooperation between the cities. It helps to exchange experience and solve common or similar problems.

As we know, Astana is a rapidly growing city that is confidently gaining its place in the international arena. It reflects in the number of cities that develop stronger ties with Astana. One of the capitals that has newly become Astana’s sister city is Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The corresponding agreement was signed during the state visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Astana this April. Akim of Astana Aset Isekeshev together with the representative of the Turkmen side signed the Agreement on the establishment of twin-city relations between Astana and Ashgabat.

Also, among the sister cities of Astana are Ankara, Istanbul, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Riga, Tashkent, Seoul, Kiev, Dubai, Beijing, Tbilisi, Bishkek, Nice and others. We are hoping that the next sister city of Astana will be in the United States, so that we could get closer to the beautiful culture of Kazakhstan!
